Livingston Manor Library began hosting a monthly Sensory Play Series for children and their families in February. The Sensory Play Series targets neurodiverse children ages 3-10 and their families and seeks to provide children with an experience that is flexible and responsive to their natural play style. It is inclusive of the whole family, offering caregivers tools and games they can play at home to further connect with their child. Each month will model sensory play, focusing on a different sense i.e. sight, sound, touch, smell, taste and movement/balance led by artist and producer Jess Kaufman. The third program, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, will focus on touch. There will be musical accompaniment by Joe Bergstein. The second-graders took advantage of the beautiful day on Monday and explored the outdoor classroom during the afterschool program. They had so much fun playing iSpy with things in nature.
LMCS Living Environment students took time out of their day Monday morning to assist the state Department of Environmental Protection in stocking trout in Willowemoc Creek. They also learned about the types of trout being stocked and not contaminating the fish farms with invasive species.
Mrs. Evans' third-grade class has been learning about text features. They became text feature surgeons and had to figure out what text feature the patient needed and how it would help their with their problem.

On April 12, LMCS hosted its inaugural Retiree Breakfast in the school cafeteria. LMCS welcomed back almost 40 former staff members, in what will be an annual gathering hosted by the school each spring. While some former staff members were coming off their first year of retirement, others have been retired for upwards of 30 years. Those in attendance were served a buffet-style breakfast prepared by Cafeteria Manager Mr. Stephen Rogers and his staff. The middle/high school band, directed by Mr. Daniel Smith, prepared a musical selection for the retirees to enjoy as well. LMCS was overjoyed by the turnout and in welcoming back many of the individuals who have made our building such a special place!

Mrs. Poppo and the students in FCCLA invited the second graders to decorate Easter Eggs before spring break. They had a great time.

Our Lost and Found table is overflowing with everything from jackets to hoodies to water bottles even sneakers. We encourage our students, when they come back from break, to see what's there and claim what is theirs. The table is located outside the main office.
Second graders in the afterschool program worked in teams to use spaghetti and marshmallows to build a structure . Then they tested out their structures to see which structure could hold a large stuffed Squishmallow.
Third graders are attempting to grow their own luck (and learn about growing plants) by growing shamrocks.
In the afterschool program, the fourth-graders were introduced to programming and coding using the Sphero Indi cars and the colored tiles. Each color has a different command for the car, and they can problem-solve and learn through screenless play.
The fifth grade ended the week before Spring Break by having an egg smashing contest. All students and even the adults participated.
Elementary students had an egg-celent adventure on Tuesday, March 26, when the Interact Club hosted an Easter Egg hunt at the school, in place of the hunt that was canceled last weekend because of the winter storm.

Mrs. Nichols' third-grade class get excited about nonfiction, via a Text Feature Surgery Classroom Transformation. Students dove deep into informational texts. They worked on locating, identifying, understanding and creating nonfiction text features.
