Livingston Manor Central School

Dear Parents/Guardians of New Livingston Manor Middle School Students,

On Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at 6 p.m., you and your child are invited to attend our Seventh  Grade Orientation Meeting in the New Gym. During this orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet our seventh grade teachers, receive course information from each teacher, pick up your student’s schedule, learn how to access your student’s grades through School Tool, and ask questions about the middle school.

The 2022-2023 school year will be a new adventure for your son or daughter.  There will be many new expectations and experiences.  Our goal at LMCS is to ensure success for every student.  We can only accomplish this with your help.  There are a few items that we would like you to be aware of as we begin our school year together.

Students will no longer be with the same one or two teachers every day, nor will they be with the same group of students all day.  They will be with as many as seven or eight teachers throughout the course of the day, and there will be a different set of classmates in their classes.

There are several requirements for each class, and a list of needed supplies and materials is included at the end of this letter.  We ask that each student show up for school on the first day with these materials, ready to go.  If purchasing these supplies is a financial burden, please contact Mrs. Danielle DalCero at 845-439-4400, ext. 1227, before the start of school.

The Middle School teachers are responsible for all students in seventh and eighth grades.  As a result, parents may not hear from the teachers as often as they would like.  Teachers will send midterm grades each quarter in addition to report cards, and we will contact you on an as-needed basis.  If you have questions or concerns, feel free to call and leave a message on the teacher’s phone, email, or call Mrs. DalCero to arrange a Parent/Teacher Conference.  We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Students are assigned a locker in the middle school that is equipped with a built-in combination lock.  The lockers are very narrow.  Please keep locker size in mind when purchasing a book bag.  Students may carry a book bag to school, but it must be stored in their locker for the day.
Each student will be supplied an "agenda," which must be carried every day to every class.  The agenda is a calendar with space where students will write down homework assignments and other important information for their various classes each day.  We have found that one of the most important skills for middle school students to learn is how to be organized and assume
responsibility for their own work.  This organizational skill is so important to us in the middle school that students are required to present their agenda to the classroom teacher and have it signed in order to obtain a hall pass to leave the classroom.

Therefore, we know students will carry their agenda with them at all times.  We also strongly encourage parents to check their child’s agenda for homework assignments.  Students must write their assignments in their agenda every day.

We welcome you and your seventh grade student to the Livingston Manor Middle School.  Seventh grade will present significant changes for your child.  It can be terrifying, wonderful, exciting, scary, challenging and rewarding, ALL AT THE SAME TIME!  Please encourage your child to keep up with their academics and to take part in some of the many extracurricular
activities that are available.  We look forward to seeing you at Orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022.  Enjoy the remainder of your summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Danielle M. DalCero

School Counselor, PK-8
